This weekend, head to the Suwannaphum Mosque community in Klongsan to get to know this old Muslim neighbourhood and taste some amazing halal food.

Organised as part of Bangkok Design Week 2019: Fusing Forward, this portion of Klongsan Fest 2019 welcomes guests and visitors to Charoen Nakhon 7, where generations of people from the Suwannaphum Mosque community live. The event is supported by the National Innovation Agency and Iconsiam.

The weekend will be packed with activities from morning into nighttime. On both days, the programme starts with a walking tour along communities and establishments by the Chao Phraya river. Guided walking tours around the community will be offered for three sessions at 10am, 2pm and 4pm.

From 4-9pm, join in the community's DIY workshop, which will provide lessons on how to make pizza and roti.

A market for halal food will be held from 10am-8pm. Delicious salads, snacks, curries, sweets and other delicacies will be available.

On Saturday, an opening ceremony will take place at 5pm. At 6pm, there will be a public talk on the topic of the identity of the Muslim community and food.

At 6.30pm on Sunday, an outdoor cinema with live narration will take place at the community's riverside sports ground.

Most activities are free of charge. Some workshops may have small fees.

The Suwannaphum Mosque community is congested with over 300 residents. It's also home to a century-old mosque, where during the day many local and even international crowds come to pray. The narrow street is filled with halal vendors and eateries that are usually crowded during lunchtime. The community is a short walking distance from Iconsiam. It is considered a hidden gem in this part of Bangkok.

To get to the community, visitors can choose to travel either on road or by boat. Those with private cars can park at Iconsiam and walk to the venue.
