Kliff Kingsbury winning over players with personality, vibe, competition

The Arizona Cardinals took a chance on Kliff Kingsbury as their head coach. Early reviews see a tight-lipped, cool leader. So far, he is winning over his players.

Quarterback Brett Hundley has taken notice, especially considering his background.

I’ve been with Mike McCarthy and Pete Carroll,” he said in an interview on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. “Those are two very, very good head coaches. Now, to come under Kingsbury, I see a lot of resemblance.”

Hundley thinks Kingsbury is “doing a great job.”

A couple of things stand out.

“He likes his players competing,” he said, which is an environment every head coach tries to foster.

What is different is his “relaxed vibe.”

“A lot of the times, coaches are yelling every second they get,” he explained. “He’s really relaxed.

“At the end of the day, if we make a bad play or make a bad throw, we know. It’s not that we need somebody screaming.”

Hindley also called Kingsbury “open-minded” and “personable.”

“That makes the people want to play for you,” he said. “That means a lot o the players.”

Obviously, it is early. Kingsbury’s message is working. Success has to follow and then wins as well. Otherwise, his player’s coach vibe nothing more than Wade Phillips or Norv Turner as a head coach.
