Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay had some fun recently at new Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury’s expense. He made Kingsbury think he could lose draft picks for a dinner the two had with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, making it look like league commissioner Roger Goodell texted him about how he can’t believe they would go out together and that it was tampering and could lead to the Cardinals losing draft picks.
McVay and Kingsbury know each other and are friends. Mahomes was coached in college by Kingsbury.
As the story goes, Kingsbury was afraid he cost the team the No. 1 pick in the draft.
Kingsbury admits the joke was a good one, though it wasn’t very fun for him.
“It ruined dinner,” he said recently on the Kingsbury Chronicle podcast. “I almost threw up.”
McVay didn’t let it go on long, but he had fun with it.
Kingsbury intends on getting him back.
“It was a well-done prank and he’s got one coming,” he said. He did note, though, it won’t be right away. He has to wait for the right moment.
This joke was great. It is even better that it was told to the public. The only thing better would be if Kingsbury’s upcoming prank is at least as good and we hear about it.
