While cornerback Patrick Peterson showed for organized team activities on Monday, one player for the Arizona Cardinals still has not shown up to practice in the offseason. Outside linebacker Terrell Suggs still has not been to voluntary OTAs, but the team is completely unconcerned.
Coach Kliff Kingsbury said he isn’t missing anything yet.
“He’s a Hall of Fame talent,” he told reporters after practice on Monday. “He’s been in every defense imaginable and we know what he is and what he brings.”
Suggs’ absence is not a surprise and he is still in contact with the team.
“We’ve been in constant communication with ‘Sizzle’ so we’re happy where he’s at,” he continued.
This will be Suggs’ 17th season. Unlike the Cardinals’ new offense, which is very unknown, the defense will run a scheme patterned after L.A. Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips’ scheme. It is a well-known scheme.
After 16 years in the league, he doesn’t really need these reps and it gives other players reps the coaches can use to evaluate the depth behind him.
Suggs is expected to be in attendance at mandatory minicamp next week. He was with the team when the team began strength and conditioning work in early April.
