Kliff Kingsbury preaches adaptability on offense

It was just a year ago when the Arizona Cardinals hired Mike McCoy as their offensive coordinator. The thing he emphasized all offseason was adapting his offense to the personnel.

Then, once the season began, the offense was awful and uncreative.

Now with a new head coach in Kliff Kingsbury, who will be the de facto offensive coordinator, he is saying the same thing.

“I’m big on adapting to our personnel,” he said on his podcast this week. “We want to do what we do well, based on our personnel. I’ve never been one that’s just going to say, ‘this is what we’re going to run, no matter what.’ That hasn’t worked for me.”

Of course, there is a big difference between the numbers Kingsbury ha put up everywhere he has run an offense and what McCoy had done in the league.

Kingsbury has shown adaptability in college. When he had tight end Jace Amaro, he was heavily used in the passing game. After that, the tight end was not featured so much. He has had productive running backs and prolific passers.

More or less every coach preaches flexibility, especially when they are newly hired. However, he at least has a track record of doing it, being creative and having high-end results.
