Kliff Kingsbury names 3 training camp standouts

The Arizona Cardinals wrapped up their first training camp under head coach Kliff Kingsbury. The roster was changed over and they installed a new offense and defense.

Some players stood out and others have faded.

Who were the players to stand out the most to Kingsbury this year? Speaking to reporters Sunday, he mentioned three.

DL Zach Allen

Cardinals Training Camp 2019

Allen was the first player Kingsbury mentioned. Allen, the team’s third-round pick in April, will be a starter now after Darius Philon was released.

Allen is “a guy that just keeps better and has had some extra reps thrust upon him.”

“He continues to show up from where he started in the spring and now he’s come a long way,” he said. “We’re going to be counting on him there inside.”

WR KeeSean Johnson

Johnson was the second player Kingsbury mentioned. He has already gotten attention for his play and practice.

“(He) continues to make a push for a young guy,” Kingsbury said. “(I) really like what I’ve seen there.”

Johnson, despite being a sixth-round pick, has basically solidified a roster spot and is in the mix for a starting job at receiver.

RB Chase Edmonds

Perhaps the surprise mention of the three Kingsbury named was Edmonds, in his second season.

Kingsbury has talked about Edmonds since the spring.

“Just kind of a do-it-all guy, whether it is special teams, catching the ball out of the backfield or running the football,’ he said. “He can do it all.”

Edmonds knows his snaps will be limited because he plays behind David Johnson, so he tries to give the coaches reasons to put him on the field. He is doing a good job.
