The Arizona Cardinals have the first pick in the 2019 NFL draft. They have a new coach in Kliff Kingsbury. Kingsbury said last October when he was the head coach at Texas Tech, he would take Murray with the first overall pick.
Murray, who was drafted in the Major League Baseball draft in the first round, now has committed to football and all the national talk is about the connection between Murray, Kingsbury and the Arizona Cardinals.
Kingsbury can draft him first overall.
Now, they already have Josh Rosen, who they believe is their franchise quarterback and for whom they traded up to acquire a year ago, but the connections to Murray are hard to ignore.
That connection got a little stronger on Monday. Not only did he declare his commitment to becoming an NFL quarterback, but he also hired Erik Burkhardt as his agent, according to multiple reports, first reported by Jason La Canfora.
Burkhardt is also Kingsbury’s agent.
This will keep the draft news and rumors abuzz for the next two months, even though it would be illogical to draft Murray. It might create enough buzz for the Cardinals to trade out of the top pick and parlay that into many more picks now and the future.
The connections are there. Kingsbury loves Murray as a player. He has the top pick. Murray and Kingsbury have the same agent.
It’s just not likely going to happen.
