Kliff Kingsbury: Cardinals ‘a long ways’ from deciding No. 1 pick in draft

It is believed throughout the NFL, media and fans that the Arizona Cardinals will take Oklahoma quarterback prospect Kyler Murray with the first overall pick in the 2019 draft next month. Some say it is a done deal.

New Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury refutes that notion. He says the Cardinals have definitely not made a decision on what they will do with the first overall pick.

“We’re a long ways from that,” Kingsbury told NFL Network’s Steve Wyche. “You know, coaches on the road, scouts from the road, private workouts, pro days. And we won’t even discuss until next week and try to fill our board and go from there.”

Kingsbury certainly doesn’t rule out drafting Murray or doing anything else. That includes a trade, taking Murray or taking a defensive player.

“I think everything’s on the table,” he said. “When you have that first pick, you’ve gotta turn over every stone and look at every scenario that’s out there, and so we’re definitely doing that.”

He insists that Josh Rosen, the quarterback they drafted 10th overall a year ago, knows where he stands with the team and also understands how the league works.

The draft is still a month away. The Cardinals set their board completely about a week before it. They might have an idea who they will draft but it isn’t set in stone at this point.
