Kleberson gives verdict on Manchester United Brazil duo Andreas Pereira and Fred

Former Manchester United midfielder Kleberson believes fellow countrymen Fred and Andreas Pereira must become more aggressive and athletic to succeed in the Premier League.

The duo look set to form an integral part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's midfield for the coming season, with Pereira recently awarded a new four-year contract.

United saw midfielder Ander Herrera depart and join Paris Saint-Germain this summer while with a high-profile exit from the club.

And although MEN Sport understands United are interested in Newcastle's Sean Longstaff and Sporting Lisbon playmaker Bruno Fernandes, as they seek midfield replacements, Brazilian pair Fred and Pereira should be set for prominent roles. Kleberson believes they have the ability to improve in the coming season.

Speaking exclusively to MEN Sport via Ready10 the former United star said: “Last season for Man United Fred and Andreas Pereira had come in off the back of a good season.

"When you have players from different cultures and Brazil, they play more technical, more balls to feet in a fluid Brazilian style. When the team is not doing well, it’s tough because they may not be suited to the playing style. When Man United play two players in the middle, it can be difficult to not see much of the ball, and because of that Brazilian style, these players may struggle.

“If the team is doing well and other players are improving, this will give Fred and Pereira the encouragement to come out and play more and we see their improvement in England."

Kleberson added that the United midfielders need to become more well-rounded to succeed in the Premier League as his former Reds teammate Solskjaer looks to improve on a disappointing 2018/19 campaign.

Kleberson himself struggled during a two-year spell at Old Trafford in which he played just 20 games and scored twice, despite being a World Cup winner with Brazil in 2002.

"It would be good to see them both get on the ball more and be more creative within a game," he added on Fred and Pereira.

"They need to become more athletic, and aggressive and hungry to win the ball back. Players and fans from South America favour the technical and attacking side of the game a lot more.“
