Klay Thompson walked out of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ with one hour left

Klay Thompson did something unthinkable.

After two hours of watching “Avengers: Endgame,” Thompson stood up and left the theater. He’d had enough of the movie. The Athletic’s Ethan Strauss reported this truly crucial information in a story focused on figuring out how the Warriors can reinvigorate Thompson’s play.

Here’s what Strauss wrote:

Thompson conserves his energy for what he loves, and he’s always been impatient with any less than favored activity. There was amusement in Warriors land when, with an hour left in the film, Klay just got up and left a screening of “Avengers: Endgame.” The plot didn’t interest him, not enough to demand that much time and attention.

*Audible gasps*

Dear god.

This edition of the Avengers’ saga is an absolute epic, running three hours and 15 minutes. And in my opinion — and the opinion of countless movie critics — it’s a terrific and, at the very least, gripping movie. For me, those three hours flew. But I’ve also seen the Marvel movies that predated and informed this film. Without prior knowledge of the characters and storylines, the movie might lose steam for viewers stepping into this universe for the first time. The movie certainly doesn’t cater to Marvel novices.

If Thompson is one of those viewers who lacked the requisite knowledge heading into the movie, then he gets a pass — even if he probably should have caught up on some of the previous movies. But if he did see the Marvel movies and he is aware of the backstory, then we’re looking at a human cyborg, who, frankly, is probably in need of a tune-up, judging from his recent playoff performances.
