Klay Thompson’s Burgerville love creates beef between restaurant and Portland fans

Before the Golden State Warriors left The Bay to head out to Portland for Games 3 and 4 of the Western Conference Finals, reporters asked Klay Thompson what he’d do with his free time. His answer, finding some time to head to his favorite burger joint in the city. “I love Burgerville, it’s my favorite,” he said with a stoic face.

A followup question pitted Burgerville against one of the most divisive fast food chains out: In-n-Out. It turns out that Thompson’s love for Burgerville outweighs his love for In-n-Out, a staple that was exclusive in California until recent years that saw the restaurant expand to a few more states.

Burgerville caught wind of Thompson’s comments, and sent out a tweet saying that they have love for Thompson.

With the Blazers in the midst of a playoff battle for a trip to the Finals, Portland fans weren’t exactly excited about the burger chain giving love to a guy trying to put the home town team out of the postseason.

The outrage is hilarious, but warranted, I suppose. Thompson spent a lot of his childhood growing up in Oregon, but was born in and went to high school in California. He has love for all of the Pacific Northwest with his Oregon ties and the fact that he played college ball at Washington State.

In the Western Conference Finals, though, this just wasn’t the beef any of us were expecting.
