KKR's Sunil Narine becomes first player to hit a century and take 100 wickets in IPL

NEW DELHI: Sunil Narine's scintillating 109-run innings against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) not only showcased his batting prowess but also etched his name in the record books.

Narine became the first cricketer to achieve the remarkable milestone of scoring a century and claiming 100 wickets in the T20 tournament.

Joining the elite century-makers for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Narine follows in the footsteps of Brendon McCullum and Venkatesh Iyer. McCullum set the tone in the inaugural 2008 IPL season with a century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), while Venkatesh joined the club in the 2023 season against Mumbai Indians (MI).

IPL: POINTS TABLEORANGE CAPPURPLE CAP

Narine's century also places him in an exclusive group of players who have achieved a hat-trick and scored a century in the IPL, alongside Rohit Sharma and Shane Watson.

During his explosive innings, Narine unleashed 13 boundaries and 6 towering sixes, boasting a staggering strike rate of 194.64.

Notably, the 35-year-old also holds the distinction of being the first KKR player to achieve the century milestone at the iconic Eden Gardens, in front of the passionate home crowd.
