Kiwi’s favourite tracks

The track I’ll be opening my next DJ set with
FTRM: Kontrol

This is a good way to get things going. It’s the “secret” alias of the excellent Fort Romeau and it’s warm and inviting with an infectious groove.

The track I always play to rescue a dancefloor
Future Four: Into Orbit (Dark Circles Remix)

My friend Boggy made this remix and, as much as it pains me to show him any public affection, it’s really amazing and always gets me out of a tight spot.

The track that currently gets the most rewinds
Ten Walls: Walking With Elephants

Rewind it, pull it off and chuck it out the window. A bit like he did with his career… Too soon?

The track I wish I’d signed to my label
Saint Etienne: Only Love Can Break Your Heart

This is the perfect pop song. Understated, mega-fun and club-friendly. OK it’s a Neil Young cover, but it’s timeless.

The track that got me out of bed this morning
Incredible Bongo Band: Let There Be Drums

If this doesn’t get me out of bed in under three minutes, nothing will.

The track I wish I’d never played
Severed Heads: Greater Reward (Piano Power Edit)

The other weekend I had a B2B set with Andrew Weatherall and I wanted to play the dub version of Greater Reward, but accidentally played the wrong side of the record, which was the brilliant, but entirely out-of-place piano edit. It raised half an eyebrow from Sir Andrew, but hey ho.

The track that should have been a crossover hit
Dominica: Gotta Let You Go (Bicep Edit)

It’s an old record, edited by two of the most talented lads in dance music. Would love to see them get this cleared and do a full re-release.

The track I’d play at my auntie’s wedding
Whitney Houston: How Will I Know

No wedding should go without an airing of How Will I Know – it’s the most fun love song. I’ve only DJed a wedding once, but apparently I played it twice before being kicked off the decks.

The ideal festival track
Fleetwood Mac: Big Love (Arthur Baker Mix)

Big festivals need big tunes, big love and Fleetwood Mac. This arrangement in particular works wonderfully on an outdoor stage.

The track I’d play at my funeral
David Guetta: If You’re Happy And You Know It

One last troll. Not sure my parents would get it, but that’s definitely all it’s good for.
