KitKat launch new gourmet flavours but they cost £12 to £14 per bar

Tea-break favourite KitKat has gone upmarket, with bespoke bars in dozens of gourmet flavours.

Tailor-made versions of the UK’s best-selling chocolate bar can be crafted with posh ingredients from rose petals and salted pretzels to cocoa nibs and pistachio.

KitKat Chocolatory customers choose bars in milk, dark, white or ruby chocolate, plus three ingredients.

The results have eight or 12 fingers and cost, incredibly, between £12 and £14.

The move follows a trend that started in Japan for off-the-wall flavours from miso soup and wasabi to purple potato and strawberry cheesecake.

Nestle is also launching a range of Special Edition and Best of British bars with flavours ranging from Whisky and Ginger and Springtime in Japan to Eton Mess, Apple and Rhubarb Crumble and Marmalade.

Prices are £7.50 for six-finger bars and £12 for 12 fingers.

All the varieties will be in a special area at John Lewis on London’s Oxford Street from Thursday and at the Trafford Centre in Manchester next month.

The special editions will be rolled out to 30 stores from Friday and Nestle plans to open its first online KitKat Chocolatory store in November, in time for the Christmas market.

It is the bar’s biggest revamp since Nestle launched KitKat Chunky 20 years ago.

Nestle UK boss Stefano Agostini said: “The introduction of KitKat Chocolatory is all about the demand for more luxury, premium confectionery and the opportunity to personalise a product which is a trend that continues to grow.”
