Residents and kites filled the National Monument area in Washington, D.C., as families gathered to celebrate the city's annual kite festival organized as part of the cherry blossom festival.
According to Reuters, thousands of people went out on this beautiful spring day to enjoy the cool temperature and fresh breeze that boosted the participants' chances to fly their kites.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival is held from March 20 to April 14 and includes more than 40 activities. A parade will be held on April 13.
The National Park Service expected the peak date for the cherry blossoms to be on Monday.
According to the festival's website, the peak bloom occurs when approximately 70 percent or more of the blooms are open around the Tidal Basin.
The annual festival commemorates the donation of 3,000 cherry trees by the Mayor of Tokyo to Washington in 1912.
