A kite-surfer who got into difficulty near a Wirral beauty spot used his smartwatch to alert the coastguard.
West Kirby RNLI were alerted at around 4.26pm today (Sunday, January 9) after a kite-surfer used his smartwatch to phone them.
The man's power kite had become submerged and he was becoming tired and cold in the tide near to Cubbins Green.

The volunteer crew reached the casualty within minutes and were able to immediately recover him and his kit. He was transferred to the shore and passed into the care of the awaiting local HM Coastguard team.
Andy Brown, West Kirby RNLI Deputy Launch Authority said: "The experienced and well-equipped kite-surfer made the right decision by contacting the Coastguard once he realised that he was in difficulty.
"An individual can quickly become severely cold if submerged in the tide for too long at this time of year so never hesitate to phone 999 and ask for the Coastguard if anyone is in danger near to or on the water. We are happy to help."
