Kit Kat Chunky comeback sees return of Cookie Dough and Mint flavours

Chocolate lovers with sweet memories of limited-edition KitKats which have come and gone will welcome news of a summer treat.

Its makers have announced good news of the return of two former KitKat Chunky special-release flavours: Cookie Dough - which will be back on the shelves this Sunday - and Mint, which will follow up in August.

But the bad news is that their comeback will be short and, well, sweet.

The two varieties, with the first including a filling of cookie dough with chocolate pieces and the second a mint-flavour chocolate alongside the ususal crisp wafer fingers, were a hit on their initial release.

Their relaunch is part of a KitKat Chunky 'Flavourites' campaign that is out to both introduce new flavours and bring back fans’ favourites each year.

But it seems you can have too much of a good thing as the Chunky Mint will be available for one production run only so buyers should be quick in the limited time it has available; although the Chunky Cookie Dough will be around a bit longer, until 2021.

Sascha Macchi, brand manager for KitKat, said: “We know KitKat fans love the opportunity to rediscover limited-edition flavours and this is why we are bringing back two huge favourites this year.

"As a nation, we cannot get enough of cookie dough, so we are expecting consumers to go wild for the return of KitKat Chunky Cookie Dough."

And she added that the Chunky Mint is expected to be "flying off the shelves as soon as it leaves our production line in York".

It will be on sale from August 13 while the Cookie Dough version will be available earlier, from July 26.

In September, the brand will be celebrating the ultimate collection of KitKat Chunky flavours with a £1m social media and broadcast campaign that will also include Milk and Peanut Butter versions.

Kat Chunky was launched in 1999 and over the years its flavours have included Hazelnut, Coconut, Fudge and New York Cheesecake.

In 2018 the winning flavour proved to be Salted Caramel Fudge.
