A runoff will be held in the Liberal Democratic Party's presidential election Wednesday, pitting the LDP's former Policy Research Council Chairperson Fumio Kishida against Taro Kono, the administrative and regulatory reform minister.
In the first round of voting, Kishida won 256 votes from Diet members, rank-and-file party members and members of affiliated groups. Kono was right behind with 255.
