Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held his first phone talks with U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday morning, following his inauguration as Japan's new leader on Monday night.
The two agreed to strengthen the U.S.-Japan alliance and promote the vision of a "free and open Indo-Pacific," with China's increasingly hegemonic moves in mind.
Kishida also spoke with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison Monday morning.
