Yokozuna Kisenosato has decided to retire as a sumo wrestler after losing his third consecutive bout in the New Year Grand Tournament on Tuesday, his stablemaster Tagonoura said Wednesday.
Kisenosato is to bow out of sumo on Wednesday, the fourth day of the tournament at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan.
"Kisenosato will retire from sumo today," stablemaster Tagonoura said. The decision was made after a discussion between the yokozuna and Tagonoura last night, the stablemaster said.
