Kirstie Allsopp hits back at 'irresponsible' Piers Morgan over coronavirus tweet

Kirstie Allsopp has criticised Piers Morgan for his reaction to President Trump's coronavirus travel ban.

On Wednesday night President Donald Trump announced he was suspending all travel between the United States and Europe – excluding the UK and Ireland – for 30 days in an attempt to combat coronavirus.

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers said the decision to not include the UK in the ban "made no sense" in a tweet to his 7.1 million followers.

He wrote: "Why is the UK exempt from President Trump's coronavirus travel ban given we've done the least to combat the disease in the whole of Europe, and our infection rates are soaring? Makes no sense."

Hitting back at the presenter, Location, Location, Location star Kirstie told Piers he was "irresponsible" and suggested he get the Chief Medical Officer Christ Whitty on the ITV show.

She tweeted: "OK Piers stop this! You are way too influential to be this irresponsible.

"We have NOT done the least in Europe. Get Chris Whitty on the show and ask him whether he feels the Government is taking his advice.

"I think you’ll find they are."

Kirstie finished off her tweet with two hashtags that read "be sensible" and "get the facts".

Piers has been vocal about his concerns over the UK's position when it comes to coronavirus and has aired his views on both Good Morning Britain and his Twitter account.

Responding to Kirstie, he said: "It's not 'irresponsible' to demand our government does more to protect its people from a global pandemic than say 'wash your hands' - especially when many other countries are doing so much more than us to fight it in terms of social distancing."

Kirstie replied: "Get Chris Whitty on and ask him whether our government is failing to take his advice, then you’ll know whether you’re right about actions the government is taking or not."

The UK is set to hold a Cobra meeting this afternoon after the World Health Organisation announced the outbreak is now considered a pandemic.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to move the UK from the "containment" phase to "delay", meaning "social distancing" measures will be considered.
