Kirsten Molloy a finalist in Telstra awards

Leader: Dr Kirsten Molloy.

HUNTER Valley Coal Chain Coordinator chief executive Kirsten Molloy has been selected as a state finalist (medium to large business) in this year's Telstra Business Women's Awards.

The awards recognise outstanding women from across the nation who are helping disrupt the way companies work. In 2020 there were more than 22,000 nominations. The winner is named in Sydney on April 7.

Dr Molloy is one of five finalists in her category and the only Awards finalist from the Hunter. This year's criteria is focused on leadership, innovation, driving value and socio-economic change.

Dr Molloy has been recognised for the role she plays in supporting material improvements in infrastructure to maximise efficiency within the $20 billion coal chain industry.

Under her leadership, HVCCC has led the development of operational improvements, resulting in more than $600 million worth of trade moved at no additional infrastructure cost.

On a regional level, Dr Molloy also plays a key role in advocating for increased diversity in leadership and runs a mentoring scholarship program through Verity Leadership, which she founded in 2014.

Dr Molloy said being recognised as a finalist was "a huge, yet unexpected honour".

"I have followed the awards over the years and am always inspired by the impressive women leaders who have been past finalists, some of whom I am lucky to count as friends and colleagues," she said.

"I certainly didn't expect to make it to this point, but I am beyond delighted all the same."
