Kirsten Dunst: "I was depressed not drunk"

A stern telling off for people who gossip about the misfortunes of others from Kirsten Dunst. She wasn't, you see, in rehab recently for alcohol problems or drug difficulties: she was depressed.

"I was struggling, and I had the opportunity to go somewhere and take care of myself. I was fortunate to have the resources to do it. My friends and family thought it was a good idea too.
"
"Now that I'm feeling stronger, I was prepared to say something. Depression is pretty serious and should not be gossiped about"

Quite right too. And I don't, let me say, doubt for a moment that Kirsten is telling the truth about this. But don't you love the implication here that while depression is a no-no, alcohol and drug problems are just fine as gossip subjects?

I can't help speculating about all those other celebs who might now decide it is beneficial to be depressed so they can take affronted cover behind a wall of secrecy. Amy Winehouse? Really, really down at the moment. Pete Doherty? Poor, depressed lamb. Kate Moss? Only allegedly depressed...

...And the rest of us? "Sorry I am late for work, I got depressed last night."
