Kirsten Dunst Expresses Interest In Reprising Mary Jane Role

Sam Rockwell open to reprising Justin Hammer role in MCU

In a recent interview, Kirsten Dunst expressed her desire to have reprised her role as Mary Jane Watson in the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home. Dunst, known for her portrayal of Mary Jane in the original Spider-Man trilogy directed by Sam Raimi, revealed that she was not asked to return for the latest installment of the franchise.

Spider-Man: No Way Home, starring Tom Holland, featured the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as different versions of Spider-Man, along with villains from their respective films. Despite not appearing in the movie, Dunst mentioned her interest in revisiting the Peter and Mary Jane relationship on screen with Maguire in a unique indie-style superhero film.

Dunst reminisced about the original Spider-Man film, describing it as feeling 'innocent' compared to the grand scale of superhero movies today. She highlighted the director, Sam Raimi, for bringing a unique touch to the superhero genre, making it feel like an indie film disguised as a superhero movie.

While speculation about a fourth Spider-Man movie starring Maguire circulates, Raimi mentioned that he has not been approached for such a project. Maguire, on the other hand, has expressed his willingness to reprise his role as Spider-Man if given the opportunity.

Meanwhile, Tom Holland is expected to return for another solo Spider-Man outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The previous film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, concluded with a bittersweet moment as Doctor Strange cast a spell to erase Peter's identity from people's memories to protect the multiverse.

Holland emphasized the importance of doing justice to the character of Spider-Man in any future films, stating that he wants to protect the legacy of the franchise and ensure that any new installment is worthwhile.
