Kirkgunzeon's weird and wonderful scarecrows welcoming passers-by

Kirkgunzeon has a new group of weird and wonderful inhabitants to welcome passers-by.

And the assorted collection of scarecrows who have taken up residence in local gardens and roadsides certainly catch the eye.

The colourful crew were all fashioned by local residents for a competition organised by Kirkgunzeon Village Hall committee.

Chairman Paul Phillips said: “The scarecrow competition was spur of the moment thing.

“Usually we have a barbecue and a duck race as our summer events but obviously we couldn’t do that this year.

“We saw other villages were doing a scarecrow competition and we thought it would be a great thing to do for community spirit.

“We have quite a few residents taking part and some households have made two or three entries each.”

People can vote for their favourite entry via an online poll on the Kirkgunzeon Facebook page.

Winners will be announced on August 23 with cash prizes being awarded for the best three entries.
