Kirkgunzeon Primary's Eco Group plant cherry tree gifted by school leavers

The pupils of Kirkgunzeon Eco Group have recently planted a tree gifted to the school by the P7 class of 2021.

The P7 leavers gifted an ornamental cherry tree to the school to help with the continuing efforts to improve the school grounds for both pupils and wildlife.

The tree had been cared for by one of the P7 parents, Mr Bolam, until it was the correct time for planting it out.

The children asked the parent council if any of the keen gardeners could give some advice on tree planting.

Mr Webster sent some equipment to use, some manure to feed the tree and a super diagram to help the pupils choose a suitable planting spot.

Mr Young sent some tree ties and stakes to make sure the tree was secure in the windy playground.

The children choose a suitable spot, worked out the width and depth of the planting hole and then got very muddy digging it out.

The tree already has buds on it and they can’t wait to see the blossom which will come before the leaves.

It is a lovely way to remember their P7 friends who have gone away to secondary.
