Kirkgunzeon Primary pupils loving outdoor life thanks to new playground games

Kirkgunzeon Primary pupils are loving playing outside in any weather after receiving lots of new playground games.

They were paid for by a Christmas fundraiser called Light Up Kirkgunzeon.

It saw school families and the local community purchase lights on the new Christmas tree and pay for a dedication that was displayed in the school fence over the festive period.

They raised nearly £400 from the venture and, along with £340 raised through Christmas Enterprise sales and a movie night, school staff have managed to buy most of the items on the pupils’ wish list.

They are now the proud owners of a portable basketball hoop, a tennis net, hurdles, space hoppers, a giant Connect 4 game and new footballs as well as other smaller games.

Head teacher Mrs Alexander said: “The children are so excited to get to play outside together again with a range of new equipment.

“We are very grateful to the generous communities of Kirkgunzeon and Beeswing for supporting our school; their donations have really helped us promote pupil wellbeing after such a tricky year.

“We have ordered a sand pit to be built too and our parent council have agreed to pay the cost of this so we truly are a lucky bunch.”
