Kirkgunzeon curler Grant Hardie representing Scotland in World Championships in Canada

Kirkgunzeon’s Grant Hardie is taking on the world in Canada this week.

He’s part of Bruce Mouat’s rink representing Scotland in Calgary at the Curling World Championships. The team also features Stranraer duo Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMilan and Dumfries’ Ross Whyte.

The tournament started on Friday with Scotland taking on Canada, going down 9-6 to the hosts.

They followed that up with a 7-2 win over Denmark on Friday night before a 9-4 win against the Netherlands on Saturday morning.

Up next on Saturday night for Mouat’s rink was Korea and the Scots swept them aside 11-4.

China were the next opponents for Scotland on Sunday afternoon which resulted in a 10-1 walkover win to take the winning streak to four matches.

The unbeaten run ended against champions Sweden on Monday as they narrowly lost 6-5 but the Scots bounced back with a 9-8 win over Germany later in the day.

That run continued on Tuesday with a 6-3 win over Japan and a 7-4 victory over Switzerland.

On Wednesday the Scots suffered a narrow 10-9 defeat to the United States before beating Italy 7-2.

The results leave Scotland in the round-robin table ahead of games against the Russian Curling Federation Team today and Norway tomorrow.
