Kirkcudbright youngsters being asked thoughts on possible youth raves in town

Youth raves could be on the cards for Kirkcudbright.

The town’s summer festivities committee is looking to see what interest there is in a series of youth disco nights.

It’s the idea of Keiron Chisholm and Fraser Kemp, who help with lighting up the town through their Dreamland Event Tech enterprise.

Summer festivities chairman, John Blaikie, said: “They spoke to us and said there wasn’t really anything for younger people to do.

“They’re right, there probably isn’t a lot in what we do that appeals to 17 to 20-year-olds so this would be something for them.

“I’d probably prefer they didn’t call it a rave but that’s what they seem to like!

“There would be bands performing and we would take neighbours into account. It would probably be best if it was a site outside the town.

“They are involved in lighting and this would allow them to utilise their skills.

“It would be supervised, we wouldn’t just leave it to them to do.”

Anyone who would like to give their thoughts on the idea – and possibly win free tickets to the raves - can do so using the survey on the Kirkcudbright Summer Festivities Facebook page.

Although coronavirus has put paid to much of the programme, the committee is hoping to organise a street party during the August bank holiday weekend.

And Sunday, May 2 will see the annual plant fair in Harbour Square.
