Kirkcudbright woman taking on London Marathon to raise cash for Parkinson's UK

Superfit Sue McMinn is preparing to go the extra mile to help efforts to find a cure for a debilitating disease.

Sue will take part in the London Marathon on April 26 to raise cash for Parkinson’s UK.

The keen Kirkcudbright runner was inspired to sign up for the event after two relatives were found to have the illness.

Sue, 50, told the News: “My uncle and cousin – not on the same side of the family – were both diagnosed with Parkinson’s within two months of each other last year.

“My cousin in Glasgow, she is only 60, and my uncle in Newcastle is 80.

“I made the decision after seeing how living with Parkinson’s is affecting their lives.

“I also now know the work Parkinson’s UK does in funding their research.

“I just thought this would be something I could do to help.”

“In the next three months I’ll build up to the full marathon distance of 26 miles.

“My target is to finish in a time of four and a half hours.

News of Sue’s marathon plans comes a week after a Parkinson’s UK fundraiser in Palnackie.

Bill’s Ceilidh at Barlochan House care home was a sell-out.

Star of the show was 89-year-old resident Bill Little, who is living with Parkinson’s.
