Kirkcudbright to turn purple on November 21 for World Pancreatic Cancer Day

The centre of Kirkcudbright will be turned purple next week.

The Soaperie Gardens will be lit up for World Pancreatic Cancer Day on Thursday, November 21.

Fundraiser Tom Pitcairn has joined forces with Kirkcudbright Summer Festivities for the occasion, which is part of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.

Tom lost his wife Issy to the disease in 2016 and since then has raised more than £10,000 for Pancreatic Cancer Scotland, as well as awareness of the disease.

He said: “Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate and has the lowest funding.

“There are tests to catch bowel cancer and breast cancer early and hopefully one can be developed for pancreatic cancer.”

Tom and a team of volunteers will be manning an information stall in Soaperie Gardens from 11am until 3pm on Thursday.

The garden will be lit in purple on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
