Kirkcudbright Swimming Pool shut for repairs after leak discovered

Kirkcudbright Swimming Pool is set to be shut for several weeks after springing a leak.

Hundreds of thousands of litres of water have escaped at the charity run facility over the past six weeks.

And resolving the problem means the pool is being emptied for the first time since it opened in 1997.

Pool manager, Colin Wyper, said: “We are slowly draining it as if you do it too quickly it will cause damage to the tank.

“We also think there is a secondary leak.

“It lost 310,000 litres in December and its capacity is 260,000 litres.

“That is a lot of water and we don’t know what damage it is doing underneath.

“There is a company coming on Monday with cameras to investigate the problem.

“We’re hoping to get it fixed as quickly as we can but it will take weeks to fix.”

While the work is carried out, the gym facility at the pool will also be shut.
