Kirkcudbright senior citizen completes marathon cycle in aid of Cancer Research UK

A Kirkcudbright senior citizen has completed a marathon cycle in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Jimmy Robertson reached his 1,000 mile target two weeks ahead of his September 30 deadline.

The 78-year-old dynamo clocked up the miles over the summer on local roads around the town.

Jimmy has lost his sister, mother and many close friends to the disease.

He said: “My younger sister Alison died of cancer 14 years ago.

“During her last few years, she and her group raised thousands of pounds for Cancer Research. Now her big brother wishes to carry on supporting this worthy cause.”

Jimmy has raised thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK over the years.

Events included two charity balls and his 75th birthday when he asked people to donate to Cancer Research UK instead of giving presents.

Now’s he’s delighted his cyclathon has wheeled in another £3,000 for the charity.

Donations can still be made at http://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/james-robertson-bike-ride.

Alternatively, they can be sent to Jimmy at Glenlown, Tongland Road, Kirkcudbright, DG6 4UT.

“All your support will help and is very much appreciated,” he said.
