A Kirkcudbright Primary School teacher has chalked up 25 years of dedicated service in the classroom.
Ruth Gordon received confirmation this week that she would receive a long service award from the council.
P7 teacher Ruth has been at Kirkcudbright since 2012 in a career which has taken her all over Galloway.
She said: “I have been privileged to work with committed colleagues and hard-working children throughout my career.
“My move to Kirkcudbright allowed me to work alongside Mrs Milligan who had taught me at Castledykes Primary.”
Ruth graduated from Craigie College of Education (Paisley University) in 1995 with a Bachelor of Education (Hons) degree.
She began her teaching career in August of the same year at Park Primary School in Stranraer, living with her auntie and uncle Catherine and Joe Caven in Dunragit.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Park,” said Ruth.
“But as with every teacher, my first class, P5, holds an extra special place in my heart.”
One of the pupils from that class, Debbie Arnott, congratulated Ruth on Facebook.
She wrote: “25 years and still as clear in my mind as if it was yesterday.
“Ruth was a fantastic teacher who will always have a place in my heart.”
After Wigtownshire, Ruth moved to teach at Springholm Primary School in 1999 where she taught for 13 years, during which time the school underwent two inspections from HMIE.
“I have many happy memories of Springholm,” said Ruth. “Some of my fondest are school shows and trips to Belfast Zoo.”
She added: “I have great memories from my teaching career so far and am looking forward to making many more.”
