Kirkcudbright Primary pupils show off their artistic abilities - using toast

Pupils at Kirkcudbright Primary have been toasting their artistic abilities.

Joanna McLeman has been teaching the youngsters how to make their own master pieces – using toast.

She said: “During the first lockdown, I was trying to think about art lessons using art materials to which all the children would have access.

“I realised most people would have pasta and bread in the store cupboards, so I decided to develop some images and lessons using spaghetti and white bread.

“This was done by making the cooked, wiggly pasta into shapes on the dry bread, placing it under the grill and toasting it.

“When it is removed from the grill and cooled, the pasta is removed, thus leaving the white, untoasted bread to make the images.

“I posted my own images for the children to see and inspire them and they have been very busy creating their own toast pictures. They have worked very carefully as working with wiggly pasta can be quite tricky.”

Joanna has sent in some pictures of the fantastic images. If you’ve been inspired to have a go yourself, send your toast artwork to gallowaynews@s-un.co.uk
