Kirkcudbright hairdresser hangs up her scissors after nearly 45 years

A Kirkcudbright hairdresser has hung up her scissors after nearly 45 years in the trade.

Wednesday, December 23 was the last day at Hallidays for Alison McVitie, who started with Hallidays as an apprentice hairdresser in July 1976.

After showing promise and an aptitude to learn she swiftly joined the styling team, rising to senior hair stylist and salon manager.

Over the years, Alison trained a number of stylists and salon owners who still keep in touch as they practice their art from around the world.

Many of Alison’s clients from her early days still regularly visit the salon and miss the “sensible gossip” of this gifted “social therapist”.

Alison, a mother and a grandmother, has a busy social calendar as she begins her retirement and will be missed by all the staff, owners and clients at Hallidays.
