A £9,000 fundraising campaign has been launched to secure four paintings for Kirkcudbright.
The town’s art gallery currently has four pieces by Glasgow Girl Jessie M King on display.
The council-run facility has been offered the chance to buy the collection for £40,000 but only has until November 25 to raise the funds.
And they have now turned to the public to help raise the necessary funds by putting a donation box in front of the pictures and setting up an online funding page.
So far, £27,000 has been secured from the Art Fund and the National Fund for Acquisitions with £4,000 coming from the Friends of Kirkcudbright Galleries, leaving £9,000 to be found.
If the council is successful, the work will remain part of the Kirkcudbright Artists’ collection.
Jessie M King was a key figure in Kirkcudbright becoming an artists’ town and an important member of the community as well as a prolific producer of arts and crafts.
Other pieces of her work are already part of the Kirkcudbright Artists’ collection owned by the council. The four pieces the local authority is looking to purchase are Whin Blossom, The Wild Rose, The Cloak of Friendship and Heritage of Heroic Example and have been in the Barr family for more than 100 years, with the current owner wishing that they remain together.
