Kirkcudbright community councillor hits out at "senseless" litterbugs for starting fire in Barrhill Woods

A community councillor has hit out at “senseless” litterbugs who started a fire in a Kirkcudbright wood.

Kim Lowe discovered the remains of the fire as well as other rubbish while out for a walk in Barhill Woods on Monday night.

She cleaned up the worst of the mess into a binbag that had also been left behind but put a call out on social media for the people responsible to collect chairs they had left behind, describing their behaviour as “senseless”.

Ms Lowe said: “I can’t believe someone would start a fire in the woods. There were broken bottles and canisters they have burnt that have obviously blown.

“All this is going on while there was the fire up at Mossdale, it is not on. I go up at seven or eight o’clock every night for my daily exercise and don’t see anyone about so it must be during the day.

“They’ve gone to the effort of taking up chairs and a wind break and left the place like this. It’s in a natural dip between two paths so they can’t be seen.

“They’re not supposed to be out at the moment. It needs to stop.”
