Kirkcudbright care home resident celebrates 100th birthday in lockdown

Hundredth birthday celebrations were held at a Kirkcudbright care home on Tuesday.

Staff at Strathdee put on a special party to mark Eleanor Matson’s big day.

Coronavirus rules meant it wasn’t festivities they’d have planned, but residents were treated to an afternoon tea and prosecco, as well as a specially made cake.

Lord Lieutenant Patsy Gilroy and deputy Chris Walker popped in with a card from the Queen and local DJ Raymond McQuarrie performed from a gazebo that was set up in the garden.

Eleanor was born in Glasgow and worked in a blueprint factory during the Second World war before moving to Kirkcudbright in 1953.

She has two children – with daughter Laura at Tuesday’s celebration – as well as four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
