Two pipers are in training to walk nearly 100 miles for charity.
Kirkcudbright and District Pipe Band pair Jane McCartney and Allison Davies are preparing to walk the West Highland Way in July.
And by doing so, they are hoping to raise money for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, set up by former Scotland rugby star Doddie Weir after he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
Jane, who lives in Kirkcudbright, said: “It’s just such a terrible disease and he has brought focus and attention to it.”
Jane has had plenty of practice with walking challenges, having climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and made it to base camp on Mount Everest for Marie Curie.
However, this will be a first for Allison – who lives in Castle Douglas – who Jane says isn’t much of a walker.
She added: “I’ve had her up Merrick twice, Carrick, Screel and Bengairn and she has done really well.
“The main problem will be the midgies. I bought her a midgie net and she said it was the worst present ever, but I told her she’ll thank me for it later!
“The weather hasn’t been too kind to us in training – we have been caught out in snow while wearing shorts and it has been blowing a hoolie with wind.
