Kirkcudbright all lit up for 2019 Illuminaire Festival of Light

Kirkcudbright was lit up at the weekend with the fantastic Illuminaire.

The festival of light saw landmarks across the town lit up for the four day extravaganza, which was launched on Thursday evening.

The highlight came on Saturday night with thousands of people turning out for a lantern parade and fireworks display.

The festival was organised by Kirkcudbright Summer Festivities and chairman John Blaikie said: “It was a brilliant weekend. For the fireworks on Saturday we were lucky that it was a nice, dry and calm night and we had around 4,000 or 5,000 out. The lantern parade was also a success.

“We’re hoping to hold it again next year if we can get the funding and we are hoping it can become an annual event. We put on quite a lot but there are a few more things we can do to make it even bigger.

“The lighting at the castle and the Tolbooth was put on by 16-year-old Kieran Chisholm and 18-year-old Fraser Kemp. For a couple of youngsters to do that is really good.

“There were quite a lot of volunteers including the art and crafts trail, who put on the village at the Soaperie Gardens which looked great.”

Next up is Kirkcudbright Food Festival on October 26 and 27.
