Part of Kirkcaldy beach was taped off this morning after a body was found.
Police were alerted to the discovery, on the Esplanade, shortly before 10.30am with officers arriving a short time later.
The area would have been busy with people at the time as it is a popular running and dog walking route.
Police say that enquiries are ongoing in a bid to establish the full circumstances.
A spokesperson said: "Around 10.25am on Sunday, 14 July police attended Esplanade in Kirkcaldy following the discovery of a body in the beach area.
"Inquiries are continuing."
