Kirkby woman sentenced for playing music too loud and causing 'misery' for neighbours

A Kirkby woman has been prosecuted by Ashfield District Council for breaching her Community Protection Notice.

Jade Leeder, 27, was issued with the notice in June 2020 due to ongoing complaints from neighbours alleging noise nuisance from loud music being played from her home.

Leeder of Beacon Drive, Kirkby-In-Ashfield, was convicted in April 2021 at South Derbyshire Magistrates Court.

At the hearing, Leeder was found guilty of the offence for failing to comply with the notice.

She was given warnings and offered support from the council's Community Safety Team, but their advice was ignored.

Councillor Helen-Ann Smith, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Crime Reduction, said: “Jade Leeder was causing misery to her neighbours, so this is a really positive result.

"I hope this acts as a deterrent to other residents that think it’s ok to play loud music behave anti-socially.

“The Council is committed to making our communities nice places to live. We have proven time and time again that we will pursue enforcement action whenever we can to ensure that the behaviours of a few people don’t impact other resident’s lives.”

Leeder was fined £440, as well as a surcharge to fund victim services of £44 and additional court costs of £455.47, leading to a total fine of £939.47.
