Kirkby man denies charges of rape

A MAN appeared in court to deny raping two women.

Ronald Cooney, 29, of Gaywood Green, Kirkby, appeared via video-link at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday to plead not guilty to eight counts of rape and one of false imprisonment.

The allegations date back to July last year and March this year.

Judge Henry Globe, QC, set a trial date for August 23.

Cooney was remanded in custody.
