Kirkbean cyclist begins challenge to raise money for primary schools

A veteran Kirkbean cyclist began a five-day 500-mile pedal on Monday to raise money for two cash-strapped primary schools.

Ian Baird is riding round local roads in a £12,000 campaign to replace outdated computers for pupils at New Abbey and Kirkbean.

He has already been joined by others en route for his Pied Cycler Challenge – with the school kids having to match the distance on static machines.

The dynamic 66-year-old raises thousands of pounds each year for health and care charities by signing up fellow cyclists for challenges.

Ian said: “Hopefully I can raise enough funds to buy laptops for a class at each school.

Raffle organiser Karen Love has again sourced some great prizes for the big draw in New Abbey Village Hall tomorrow night (Friday) at 6.30pm.

Ian said: “I cannot thank everyone enough for their fantastic support.”
