Kirk Herbstreit says he’d be “shocked” if we have college football this fall

It’s on everyone’s minds, though there are things much more important during this world health crisis we’re in. COVID-19, or the novel coronavirus that’s hitting the U.S. extremely hard right now has turned life as we know it upside down.

And of course keeping everyone healthy the best way we know how is the best course of action right now. That means sports have been shut down as have almost every social gathering out there. Already spring and winter sports have been put on the shelf and canceled this year, and next up you have to wonder if we’ll far enough through this thing to still have football this fall.

ESPN analyst and Ohio State alum Kirk Herbstreit touched on that topic while appearing on ESPN radio earlier this week. To say that he had his doubts about college football finding its way to a television or streaming device near you might be an understatement.

“I’ll be shocked if we have NFL football this fall — if we have college football. I’ll be so surprised if that happens,” said Herbie.

“Just because — from what I understand — people that I listen to, you’re 12 to 18 months from a vaccine. I don’t know how you let these guys go into locker rooms and let stadiums be filled up and how you can play ball. I just don’t know how you can do it with the optics of it.”

Herbstreit then went on to caution about the path we might still have to travel with this pandemic.

“As much as I hate to say it, I think we’re scratching the surface of where this thing’s gonna go.”

I have to say, I don’t disagree with what Herbstreit is saying. I hope he’s wrong, and I hope we’re able to turn the corner on this crazy time in history, but all we can do right now is hope, pray, and be there for each other.
