Kirk Herbstreit ranks his top college football teams ahead of Week 10

ESPN “College GameDay” college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit has ranked his top six college football teams after Week 9 of the 2023 college football season.

Week 9 featured Georgia crushing Florida, and Kansas shocking Oklahoma, 38-33. Oregon dominated Utah on the road. North Carolina suffered another embarrassing loss. Florida State, Ohio State and Washington won in Week 9 to continue their undefeated seasons.

How does Kirk Herbstreit rank his top six college football teams? Who would make his College Football Playoff if the season ended now?

No. 6 Oregon Ducks

Christopher Creveling-USA TODAY Sports

Week 10: California at Oregon (5:30 p.m. ET/all noted times are ET)

Kirk Herbstreit thinks Oregon has a clear path back to the College Football Playoff. If the Ducks can win out and get a win over Washington in the Pac-12 championship, it would be hard to leave quarterback Bo Nix and Oregon out of the College Football Playoff.

Record: 7-1

Week 10: Washington at USC (7:30 p.m.)

Washington hits the road again in Week 10 to face Caleb Williams and the USC Trojans. USC is still in the Pac-12 race and will want to spoil Washington’s season. The Huskies and quarterback Michael Penix will score points on USC’s defense, but can Washington stop USC?

Record: 8-0

Florida State Seminoles

Week 10: Florida State at Pittsburgh (7:30 p.m.)

Florida State may need a perfect season to make the College Football Playoff. The Seminoles beat Wake Forest last week and will be favored in each of their remaining games. Kirk Herbstreit thinks the Seminoles will really benefit from Oklahoma’s Week 9 loss to Kansas.

Record: 8-0

No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Week 10: Ohio State at Rutgers (noon)

At 6-2, Rutgers has sneakily put together a solid season. Rutgers will look to pull off an upset at home against an Ohio State team that has wins over Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Penn State. The Buckeyes has had their fair share of offensive inconsistencies, but can trust star receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

Record: 8-0

No. 1(B) Georgia Bulldogs

Kim Klement Neitzel-USA TODAY Sports

Week 10: Missouri at Georgia (3:30 p.m.)

Kirk Herbstreit would not rank Georgia No. 2, but he did not rank them as the only No. 1 either. Herbstreit thinks Georgia looked the best it has looked all season in its win over Florida. The Bulldogs and quarterback Carson Beck face a tough remaining schedule.

Record: 8-0

No. 1(A) Michigan Wolverines

Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports

Week 10: Purdue at Michigan (7:30 p.m.)

Kirk Herbstreit thinks Michigan has been the most consistent college football team all season and that’s fair. The Wolverines have won each game comfortably, but their schedule has been very easy. Michigan’s schedule is more challenging in November. No team has scored more than 10 points against the Wolverines all season.

Record: 8-0
