Kirk Herbstreit apologized to Michigan after claiming they would try to duck Ohio State

The latest College Football Playoff rankings were announced Tuesday night on ESPN and the same four teams held the same for top spots – Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson and Ohio State in that order.

Ohio State, of course, has only played four games due to COVID-19 issues. They returned to practice Tuesday and are hoping to be able to play Michigan State on Saturday.

Next week Ohio State is scheduled to play Michigan, who paused their football operations on Monday while awaiting word on presumptive positive COVID-19 tests.

During ESPN’s college football rankings show, Kirk Herbstreit said he thought Michigan would try to duck Ohio State, which is a pretty wild thing to say about a program that is trying its best to make the right decisions during a pandemic.

Here’s what Herbstreit had to say about the situation, with his Michigan comments coming at the 29-second mark:

“I still think Michigan waves the white flag and potentially avoids playing Ohio State next week.”

Wow.

After the show Herbstreit posted an apology video, saying he misspoke and he’s just frustrated with where college football is at right now and that he shouldn’t have said what he said.
