Kirk Douglas leaves $61m fortune to charity after passing away at 103

Hollywood actor Kirk Douglas has left his entire $61m fortune to charity after his death earlier this year.

The 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea star died aged 103 on February 5 and was known as an extremely charitable man, before his passing.

Kirk has shared his $61m fortune by giving away $50million to be distributed through the Douglas Foundation, which aims to "help those who cannot otherwise help themselves", Birmingham Live reports.

However, the star reportedly left nothing to son Michael Douglas, who is estimated to be worth around $300 million dollars.

Douglas, best known for films including Spartacus and Ace In The Hole, was one of the last remaining stars of Hollywood's golden age.

Confirming his death in a statement, Michael said: "It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103.

"To the world he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in set a standard for all of us to aspire to."

Michael, married to Welsh actress Catherine Zeta Jones, said his father was a "wonderful husband" and a "loving grandfather".
