Kirk Cousins’ superstitious chain-wearing on Vikings team flights, explained

If you have money riding on the Minnesota Vikings any time they’re on the road, the best thing you can hope to see after the game is quarterback Kirk Cousins wearing a bunch of iced out jewelry around his neck.

You can thank left tackle Christian Darrisaw for that.

After the team’s win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 4, their second of four straight, Cousins wore Darrisaw’s chain on the flight back home.

It was the first time he had ever wore a chain, and as Fox’s Kristina Pink explained ahead of their game Sunday, it became a superstition for Cousins.

So he did it again after Minnesota’s Week 6 win in Miami, and more teammates joined in on chaining the quarterback.

Now, Cousins’ chain-wearing has taken on a life of its own.

“Big Kirko” was born in the moment from this video below.

And this was Cousins after the Dolphins win.

The Vikings are four-point favorites over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, but they’re home, so there won’t be any flights after the game.

The next time Cousins will have a chance to break out the chains is next Sunday after Minnesota plays the Washington Commanders.
